Paid Projects
- Update August 20, 2008 - I no longer am looking for new artists. This page is remaining online for my current artists to reference.
I need some artists to draw custom Biblical illustrations for websites which will contain an overview of Christianity. I have included some already finished illustrations at the bottom of this job listing, so that you can see what some of the artists have already drawn for me. The artwork you produce should be drawn with colored pencils (preferably with the Prismacolor Premier Pencil Set of 72). The size of each art piece must be no smaller than 10 inches wide by 6 inches tall (although you may make them taller than 6 inches if necessary). A good paper to use would be something from a bristol pad that is 9" x 12", 100lb, with a vellum surface. An example would be a sheet from a
Strathmore Bristol Pad (300 series) with a regular vellum surface, 9" x 12", 100lb. I will scan in the images and format them for the web after receiving the original artwork by mail from you.
I will provide suggestions of what the illustrations might look like. However, my suggestions are not very detailed and you will need to use your own imagination as well. You will also need to do a little bit of research to get familiar with what types of clothes people wore and what buildings and everyday items may have looked like during the time periods which your illustrations will portray.
I plan to translate the websites into Chinese, Vietnamese, and Hebrew. The illustrations may not contain any writing (other than ancient writing which was used by the people who are being illustrated). The illustrations should be something that Vietnamese, Chinese, Jews, and Americans can all relate to and enjoy. I plan to allow anyone to republish the content and images from these websites on their own websites freely; this project is intended to provide a brief overview of Christianity which can help non-Christians know and understand Christianity and Jesus. I do not need these illustrations done quickly; I am patient and would rather wait months if I have to, to get the job done right. I want you to enjoy working on these illustrations when you have the time to comfortably do so.
I am willing to pay $15 / hour and I need to know a rough estimate of many hours it will take you to produce an illustration before you start it. I have hired multiple artists, so I have several people working on this project simultaneously. I expect that an illustration will take between 8 to 12 hours to draw depending on the illustration. Payments are made by PayPal or by check. Artists living in the US who earn more than $600 in a year will need to file a w9 with Modern Scribe to receive a 1099 form for tax purposes.

Illustrations Finished So Far You need to match this style
These are some of the illustrations which have been completed for this project. I want all of the illustrations to look similar in style. I don't want this project to end up looking like a collection of various unrelated images done by multiple people.

Illustration Descriptions
Here are all the descriptions for illustrations that I need to have drawn by artists for this project.
- #1 - Picture of the earth as seen from outer space with the moon, sun, and stars in the background. Note: don't put the hand of God in there, because he created everything by his Word.
- #2 - Eve is eating fruit and giving some to Adam (who is also eating some). Don't show them with clothes on, however, don't make this look like nude art either (don't show curves - keep it prude). I found this description of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the book of Enoch - let's model our tree after it: That tree is in height like the fir, and its leaves are like (those of) the Carob tree: and its fruit is like the clusters of the vine, very beautiful. Note: don't put a snake in the picture. We don't know what a snake looked like before it was punished by God and forced to slither from then on.
- #3 - Noah is building an ark while the earth is full of wickedness and violence.
- #4 - Abraham leaving where he is and going on a journey to somewhere unknown. He looks around 75 years old. He took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls they had gotten in Haran with them. So, basically a caravan is going somewhere.
- #5 - Moses coming down the Mountain with the 10 commandments on 2 stone tablets in his hands, with the congregation of Israel waiting for him at the bottom. If you want to make the writing on the tablets visible in the illustration, then make it look like Hebrew writing. Exodus chapter 34 describes what the scene looked like. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Commandments
- #6 - Someone brings a female lamb without blemish to a priest and the "someone" lays his hand on the head of the lamb in front of a Levite (the "someone" has not yet killed the lamb as a sin offering, but it is going to happen soon). Leviticus 4:32-33
- #7 - An older prophet talking to a crowd in the streets of Jerusalem. Some of the crowd is listening, some look angry.
- #8 - Mary holding baby Jesus in her arms in some kind of a village setting. Don't include Joseph in this picture because it might confuse people. I didn't mention Joseph in the paragraph that this image goes with.
- #9 - Picture of Jesus walking on water to the boat filled with his disciples. Matthew 14:22-33. Have Peter looking toward Jesus so that it appears that he is asking the Lord to ask him to come unto Jesus on the water.
- #10 - Jesus preaching to a large crowd of people in an open field like area with vegetation typical of what you might see in Israel.
- #11 - Jesus on the cross, dead, with people around the scene (downplay the other two people on crosses to his left and right (make them farther in the background or faded) so that you draw more attention to Jesus. You might put some Roman looking guards in the scene as well as Jews.
- #12 - The scene where Jesus appears to his disciples in a room. Then, Thomas is told to put his hand in Jesus' side so he'll believe. Perhaps have Thomas reaching towards Jesus, but don't show his skin touching Jesus' skin yet. John 20:26-29
- #13 - Scene of Pentecost as described in Acts chapter 2. Note: don't let it look like God was setting their heads on fire to kill them (I don't know what people might think if they saw a picture of a bunch of people with their heads on fire). You can put the fire in there somehow, but just be loving in the way that you portray it.
- #14 - Someone getting baptized in a river (Maybe the Jordan river) in a rural location with Christian Jews as spectators on the river bank.
- #15 - Scene of people getting executed (perhaps by getting hung). This picture can be more modern (perhaps somewhere in between 500-1500 AD). Have a few spectators in the distance, and have some of the people look a little sad about what they are doing, while most others are enjoying it. The people who are about to get killed should look confident (not terrified) and should be looking towards heaven.
- #16 - Jesus in the sky with people coming out of the ground and currently living people flying off the ground towards the sky to meet him. This can be a modern looking group of people. Note: for all we know, this illustration might be used for 50 years or more, so if possible, try to keep the clothes styles something that people might still relate to in 50+ years from now.
- #17 - Many people in a throne room getting judged in front of the judgment seat of Christ with a lake of fire in the background that some are being cast into by angels. This picture needs to look very serious and very scary. It's probably the most important illustration on this whole page and should be your best work of art for this project (needs to be very detailed).
- #18 - People in heaven on streets of gold in a happy place. You should read Revelation chapter 21 to get inspired before working on this illustration.
